Etah district is a part of Aligarh Divisionwith Etah town as its district headquarter. It is dominated by Yadavs and Rajputs.

According to the 2011 census Etah district has a population of 1,761,152. This gives it a ranking of 272nd in India (out of a total of 640 Districts). The district has a population density of 717 inhabitants per square kilometre (1,860 /sq mi).

Etah's is surrounded by Aligarh, Farrukhabad, Mainpuri, Firozabad, Hathras (Mahamaya Nagar) and Kasganj.

Amir Khusro considered as one of the best poets of Urdu was born in Patiyali, Etah.

Prominent places to visit in and around Etah are Patna Pakshi Vihar Jaleshar, Bada Jain Mandir, Kailash Mandir, Hanumangarhi, Kaali Mandir, Soron (birthplace of Goswami Tulsi Das),Janta Durga Mandir Vijaynagar, Pathwari Mandir.

The famous Kailash Mandir at Etah was built by King Dil Sukh Rai Bahadur and is 148 years old. Noah Kera village was famous for marriage of Lord Sri Krishna with Rukmini
